Here is a small list of terms generally specific to The Gambia. Some of these may not exactly be "Wolof". - afra - grilled meat, or grilled meat stall
- benechin - rice baked in a thick sauce of fish and vegetables
- bolong - literally 'river' in Mandinka, but when used in an English context it means creek or small river
- chop - meal, usually local-style
- chop-shop - basic local-style eating house or restaurant
- dash - bribe (noun), also used as a verb 'You dash me something ...'
- foufou - mashed cassava
- GAMTEL - Gambia's national phone company
- garage - bus and bush-taxi station
- plasas - meat cooked with vegetable leaves in palm oil
